According to lawyer Li Xinyu, Shanghai Representative Office of SSSPO, which specializes in Customs Law of the United States, the US Customs New York and New Jersey ports (NewYorkandNewJerseyseaports) made remarkable achievements in cracking down on smuggling of counterfeit imports in 2007.

The US Customs issued a press release on 5 th this month, announcing that the ports in New York and New Jersey broke the record of counterfeit products smuggling in the 2007 fiscal year, and the value of the infringing intellectual property products seized by them was more than 60 million dollars, which increased by 238% and 144% respectively compared with the 2005 and 2006 fiscal year.

In the first three weeks of the first 2008 fiscal year, customs officers from various ports in New Jersey, New York, seized a number of imported garments, footwear and bags and products, including YokiSport, NikeAirJordan, Coach, Gucci, LouisVuitton and other famous trademarks, worth 4 million 400 thousand US dollars.

Information released by US Customs shows that counterfeit products are smuggled in various ways.

Illegal goods are often forgery as plastic forks, brake pads, Christmas decorations, or fake leather purses hidden in large wooden frames and artworks.

New York customs officers even found that smuggling groups hide counterfeit Nike shoes in the interlayer of refrigerated containers, which is very similar to the traditional way of drug smuggling.

In addition, some people imported counterfeit labels, tags and signs from overseas to reduce the risk of being seized by customs.

On the same day, the US customs also announced that customs officers at Losangeles Long Beach port (LosAngeles/LongBeachSeaport) recently cracked a counterfeit footwear product and a clothing smuggling case, and intercepted 64664 pairs of fake Nike sports shoes and 6144 fake NorthFace trademarks.

These counterfeit products have a total of 7 containers.

The smuggling group tried to declare the import of the goods in the name of Chinese furniture last month.

The domestic value of the goods is as high as US $about 2000000.

According to Li Xinyu lawyer, counterfeit footwear products and ready-made clothes have always been the top of the US customs seizure list.

In addition to intellectual property rights, the US Customs Department has intensified the investigation of imported goods that violate federal safety regulations for food, medicine, cosmetics, toys and electrical products.
