In the case of procurement pfer, Bangladesh garment manufacturers must improve their production efficiency, so that employers can pform the rising wage pressure and end the next round of labor unrest.

Mike Flanagan, President of the British clothing merchandising consulting company, said that buyers in Europe and the United States were very concerned about the low productivity of workers in Bangladesh.

He believes that wage increases should not be automatically converted into rising prices of products, but should be synchronized to improve production efficiency.

Since last year, some other garment producing countries in Asia have been raising the minimum wage.

In mid June, protests against workers and employers in 300 Bangladesh garment factories continued for a week due to dissatisfaction with the current wage level.

Karl John, President of H&M, said he would meet with the Bangladesh government and meet the needs of workers through compensation, so that workers could get into work as soon as possible.

H&M is a member of the international fair wage Association (IFWN). Its role is to strive for better treatment for workers in the market.

H&M, Marks & Spencer, WAL-MART, Gap, Carrefour and 15 other clothing brands encourage the Bangladesh government to establish a buyer forum to discuss and solve the problems facing the industry, and to establish a union to regularly examine workers' wages.

Karl John of H&M said that in Bangladesh, buyers can urge factories to improve their working environment, which is more efficient than changing the source of procurement.

Megan Moffet, manager of WAL-MART international business department, added that helping workers improve their working environment usually yields good returns.

Some garment manufacturers have pointed out that if producers are unable to get credit or the price of products is faster than other countries, buyers from Europe and the US will have to withdraw from Bangladesh.

Garment manufacturers in other countries in Asia can provide better overall paction prices, product quality and stable supply capability, said Heart-Hunters, an apparel purchasing agency in the US.

Valerie, the representative of the agency, said that the political situation of Kampuchea and other Asian countries or African countries has become increasingly stable and is becoming a viable option.

Bangladesh clothing manufacturers Exporters Association raised the minimum monthly wage of garment workers to $36 in 2010.

But workers demand a minimum wage increase of 30%, because their income is difficult to afford the rising prices of products.

The Bangladesh labor minister believes that the review of wages can not effectively improve the productivity of Bangladesh, and the government needs to implement effective measures to grant subsidies to workers.
