Shoe Market Complaints Consumption

On March 11th, the Consumer Council of Shenzhen recently released the comparative report on leather shoes (casual shoes) in 2011.

According to the report, a total of 55 batches of 28 production enterprises were detected, exceeding 30% of them failed.

In 2008, the Consumer Council of Shenzhen received 167 complaints from consumers (including 81 leather shoes), 216 cases in 2009 (119 leather shoes), 258 cases in 2010 (117 leather shoes), and the complaints of leather shoes mainly focused on the problems of bottom breaking, degumming, skin dropping and decolorization. At the same time, there were many differences and disputes between consumers and merchants in the process of replacement and repair.

The statutory functions assigned to it are to strengthen the social supervision of leather shoes and guide consumers to choose products that are inexpensive and suitable for their products. The consumer committee of Shenzhen city carried out comparative tests on leather shoes (casual shoes) between December 2010 and March 2011.

The testing work of this comparative test was commissioned by Shenzhen Metrology quality inspection and Research Institute.


The samples of the comparative test are all made by the professional sampling officers of Shenzhen Consumer Council staff and testing organizations.

The sample of Tianhong shopping mall, Maui department store and sun department store purchased 55 batches of 28 production enterprises.

The test items include the peel strength of the bottom, the folding resistance of the shoe, the adhesion strength between the sole and the outer middle, the wear resistance of the sole, the heel binding force, the pull out strength of the upper, the bending rigidity, the hardness of the core, the hardness of the bottom heel, the color fastness to rubbing and the inner pad, the sensory quality and the logo.


The results showed that there were 31 batches of the initial inspection and 24 unqualified batches. Among them, 10 batches of samples were applied for reexamination, 4 batches were re examined, and 6 batches were failed to be re examined.

The final inspection report qualified 35 batches, 20 batches failed, the pass rate was 63.6%, the failure rate was 36.4%.


Of the 20 batches of unqualified samples, 12 batches were only unqualified labels, 3 batches were only internal quality (except labels), and 5 batches had both labels and internal quality.

Therefore, the quality of qualified samples is 47 batches, the pass rate is 85.5%; the internal quality of the unqualified items are: peel strength, shoe folding resistance, hook bending rigidity, hook hardness, bottom shoe heel hardness, outsole and outer bottom adhesion strength, wear resistance of the outsole.


The consumer committee of Shenzhen said that the results of the comparative test were only responsible for the test samples, not representing the quality of other brands and batches of the brand.
