Dominica: Textile Exports Continue To Decline

In the first quarter of this year, Dominica's textile exports to the US market dropped by 12.7%, and its exports decreased by 25.5%.

The decline in clothing sales is in sharp contrast to the advantages of diversified service sectors in Dominica, which is one of the main sectors of foreign exchange earnings generated by Dominica, including tourism, telephone centers and other aspects.

At present, the number of textile free zones in Dominica has decreased from 60% to 32%, followed by medical production, accounting for 18.4%, electricity production accounted for 16.6%, jewellery accounted for 14.5%, shoes accounted for 5.7%, tobacco and series products accounted for 8.7%, services accounted for 13.1%, and marketing accounted for 9.9%.

According to the main shipping report to the US market, in the first half of this year, the Republic of Dominica exported 180 million 700 thousand square meters of textiles in the first quarter of this year, down 12.73% compared with the same period last year, and the export volume dropped to 417 million 300 thousand US dollars, down 25.5% compared to the same period last year.

Costa Rica is the main competitor of the Republic of Dominica in only trade agreements. Costa Rica's textile exports have declined by 21.99% and exports have declined by 19.15%.
